New devices and recovery

Each device has its own keys. A new device does not automatically see old history. A new password does not unlock private conversations.

In My account you can see devices for private conversations. Revoking stops new messages to that device. Signing out alone does not.

Good to know

  • Keep a recovery code if you set one. Kireli cannot guess it for you.
  • A forgotten password is not a backdoor into your private conversations.
  • If all keys and the recovery code are gone, older history may stay unreadable.
